About Springbank Playschool

A Place for Fun and Learning

Springbank Playschool is a non-profit, parent co-operative preschool located in the heart of Springbank. We have been a fixture in the beautiful community of Springbank for generations. We are located upstairs in the Springbank Park For All Seasons building on Springbank Road.

Our non-profit status allows us to stay true to our core values. We have small class sizes, low fees, and dedicated teachers. Our low incidence of staff turnover ensures consistency and allows our students to develop strong relationships with their teachers. We utilize parent volunteers in every aspect of our school – from parent helpers in the classroom to the board of directors  – parents are welcomed and a valued part of our program.

At Springbank Playschool we strive to give our students a positive first learning experience. Our classroom integrates new ideas with tried and true favorite activities. Our smaller class sizes allow the teachers to play to the strengths and interests of the students, adjusting activities to best suit the needs of the children on any given day. Field trips, special days, and exciting guests are ongoing throughout each school year.

Volunteering

Springbank Playschool is a non-profit, parent-run organization which relies on volunteers to ensure that everything runs smoothly.  Please consider joining the Board of Directors – your participation will enhance your child’s Playschool experience and allow you to contribute to an exceptional community organization. Member volunteer roles require less of a time commitment but are still essential to the operation of playschool! All families are required to take a volunteer role at the time of registration.

Our Teachers

Caring & Dedicated

Ms. Ellery officially joined Springbank Playschool as the 4-yr-old teacher in September 2008. She taught both 3s and 4s over her first 5 years with the playschool, before taking a maternity leave in 2013. In 2014 she returned as a parent volunteer and joined the board as the Playschool Registrar, then in 2016 took on the additional role of Board President which she held until May 2018. Ms Ellery rejoined the teaching staff for September 2018 as the 3-yr-old teacher.

Ms Ellery attended Mount Royal College and graduated with a Child and Youth Care Counsellor Diploma in 2007. She has worked with children and youth of all ages, in a variety of settings including preschool, overnight camp, youth volunteers, and at-risk youth programs. She holds her Child Development Supervisor Certificate (formerly level 3) from Alberta Child and Youth Services.
Now a mother of 3, Ms Ellery is passionate about providing our playschool students with an opportunity to flourish in our learn-through-play environment. She believes our students are all unique and loves to plan playschool programming that intrigues and encourages our littlest learners so they can have a wonderful early education experience.

Ms Kim joined the Springbank Playschool family back in 2016/2017 as the Vice President and volunteered again in 2018/2019 as the Board President.

Ms Kim has worked with children in various programs throughout the years. Running a school and scouting camp in Summerland BC, she was able to teach fun outdoor survival skills to kids of all ages. From 2010 to 2012 she worked at a before and after school program as the assistant manager and her main focus was on the kinder program. Ms Kim has a formal education in Interior Design and will be extending her certification in Early Childhood Education to hold a Child Development Worker Certificate. Ms Kim is an accomplished at home baker and has even made it to the auditions round for a few baking television shows! Ms Kim is a mother of two and has been solely focused on being a stay at home mom for the last 8 years. Ms Kim strongly believes in building up children's self confidence in their social and fine motor skills. She encourages kindness through communication and working together as a team.
